In the first nine months, the high-tech firms in Beijing's Zhongguancun reported total revenue of 3.3 trillion yuan (500 billion U.S. dollars), up 15 percent year-on-year, official statistics showed.

Industries in environmental protection, advanced manufacturing, new materials, electronics and information, bioengineering and medicine and energy-saving technology, all saw fast growth, according to Beijing Municipal Bureau of Statistics.

Zhongguancun science park has more than half a million research and development personnel. R&D investment grew nearly 18 percent year-on-year to reach 113 billion yuan during the period.

Zhongguancun is one of the country's most important innovation centers and is home to high-tech enterprises like Lenovo and Baidu.
