Taiwan's exports continued to grow in October but at a much slower pace due to a high comparison base, the island's finance authority said Tuesday.

The island's exports grew 3 percent year on year in October, the smallest growth in the last 13 months mainly due to a high base from 2016 when shipments spiked due to delays caused by a typhoon in September.

Autumn holidays at the beginning of the month reduced the number of working days, contributing to the weak result.

October exports volume of 27.5 billion U.S. dollars is a record high for the month, according to the authority.

Exports of electronic components continued to surpass 10 billion dollars in October after a record high registered in September.

Exports to Chinese mainland and Hong Kong grew by 4.9 percent year on year. Exports to Europe expanded 7.1 percent, while exports to the U.S. inched up 0.6 percent. Exports to Japan fell 6 percent.

The finance authority expects exports in November and December to continue to grow moderately and achieve double-digit growth for the whole year.
