People living in a district in Jiangsu's provincial capital, Nanjing, are now able to contact police through "Didi Police," an option being offered via WeChat, reports chinanews.com. The service, active as of July 18, 2017, was developed by the Xuanwu branch of the Nanjing Public Security Bureau. "Didi Police" allows residents to contact the nearest police officer, much like the "Didi" ride hailing app, said Feng Su, head of the Xuanwu Public Security branch. Six non-urgent options are available through the program, mostly focused around dispute settlements, noise and animal complaints. "Didi Police" in Xuanwu District in Nanjing is operational from 8am to 8pm. Assistance requests which run longer than one minute are automatically transferred to the command center, which will then dispatch an officer. The service is also interactive. Officers will be subject to a personal rating after the complaint is dealt with. The goal is to try to motivate the local police officers, as well as shorten response times, said Feng Su. "Didi Police" also provides officers with additional online resources. Some 200 experts are on-call with the service, allowing officers to solicit outside opinions on a variety of subjects. The "Didi Police" platform allows police to upload audio, video and text to help with investigations or dispute settlements. |
