Tao Ran, deputy CEO of Didi, described the gossip as nonsense, and said that the company would soon be moving into its new office building. According to the rumors, the company recruited a large number of workers as it developed quickly over the last year. It also acquired Uber China in August, which has led to job duplication. In addition, it's claimed China's new regulations on online car hailing which came into force on November 1, and which raised the threshold for drivers, has impacted on Didi's business. The rumors further suggest the layoffs started last month and nearly 100 people have already lost, or soon will lose their jobs. The second and third round of layoffs were anticipated in November and December. Before the acquisition, Didi Chuxing reportedly had 6,000 staff with Uber employing 1,000, and so Didi staff were the focus of the layoffs.
