[Photo: china.org.cn] A judge from east China's Jiangsu province has been seriously injured by a man who was reportedly dissatisfied with his court rulings, reports thepaper.cn. Zhou Long, vice dean of the People's Court of Muyang county, was stabbed several times after being knocked down by a car driven by a man surnamed Hu near the gate of the court on Friday afternoon, according to the report. Hu was later arrested by police at the site. After hours of emergency treatment, Zhou's life was saved at the hospital. Police say Hu was not satisfied with the ruling and the execution of his case. He was also found to have been smearing Zhou online and accusing him of dereliction of duty. The procuratorate and High People's Court of Jiangsu province took immediate action after the incident, and offered directions to the investigation of the case. The court also released a statement on its official WeChat account, condemning the brutal attack to Zhou Long and calling for more practical efforts to secure the safety of the judges in the country. The incident came hard on the heels of another incident in which a 64-year-old retired judge in south China's Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region was murdered at his home on January 26. To avoid the occurrence of similar incidents, the Supreme People's Court released last week the implementation measures for a regulation on protection of judicial personnel. The regulation, released by the State Council in July 2016, called for immediate and heavy punishment for activities directed against the well-being of judicial personnel. The regulation also said the protection offered to such personnel should be extended to their family members and also to cover their off-work hours. |
