Wang Dong, a 46-year-old math teacher from Chongqing municipality city of Southwest China has demonstrated the meaning of true love by staying by the side of his wife Qu Lan, all day and every day for eight years after she lost her memory.

Wang and Qu got married in 1995 and the couple had a baby one year later. However, in 2008, an accident changed all their lives.

One day, Qu passed out at work and was diagnosed with cerebral hemorrhage. Emergency surgery to save her life left her in coma for 26 days.

When Qu recovered and left the hospital, she found she had lost her memory. Qu forgot everything including her age and even her son's birthday, although she did recognize her husband Wang Dong.

"Amnesia made her like a 3-year-old child and she couldn't even take care of herself," Wang recalls, "but I was there to help her rebuild her memory."

Qu came to rely on her husband, following him wherever he went. On weekdays Wang would take his wife to his school in order to look after her.

Every working day since then, Wang would let Qu stay in his office during classes and accompany her wherever she went. In their spare moments, they would chat and play games to help her regain her old memories. This has continued now for eight years.

Wang says the most his wife ever says to him since the accident is "I love you and I cannot leave you".

He says: "being together all day gets us even closer than before and I am glad to see the every progress she has made so far."

"The couple make a beautiful scene at school; their closeness is like a person with his shadow," says Li Hongqiong, one of Wang's teaching colleagues, "I am so moved by them and I always tell their story to new students."
