[Photo: Xinhua] It has been announced that in July, Dubai will become the first city in the world to run autonomous aerial vehicles (AAV) capable of carrying passengers, using the Chinese designed and made EHang 184. The Roads and Transport Authority in Dubai, the capital of the United Arab Emirates, exhibited the EHang 184 AAV at the fifth World Government Summit, attracting a lot of attention. The electric-powered passenger drone weighs about 200 kilograms, but it can fly for up to 30 minutes or 50 kilometres, with a maximum passenger capacity of about 117 kilograms. According to Mattar Al Tayer, chairman of Dubai Roads and Transport Authority, several flight tests have been conducted to ensure it will be operational in time. Dubai has ambitions to be a Smart City, with unmanned traffic forming a vital part of the plan. |
