A Wechat post showing a doctor holding an old patient in his arms during an operation has gone viral online, the Legal Evening News reported.

The 102-year-old patient's health condition was quite well, but she fell down and broke her right leg several days ago. She had been refused treatment by some hospitals because, at her age, the operation she needed was high-risk.

Finally, the First Affiliated Hospital of Harbin Medical University in Heilongjiang province decided to help.

Dong Yingwei, an experienced anesthetist, took the operation. She said general anesthesia could have killed the elderly patient, and a local anesthesia would ultimately have left her in considerable pain because she would have had to lie on her side for an extended period of time during her procedure - not so easy when you are 102 years old.

Doctor Zhao Liang held the patient in his arms during the whole operation process and kept comforting the nervous senior.

Young anesthetists at the hospital had never seen such techniques before, so they took photos for study purposes and posted a photo on Wechat to share the heart-warming moment.
