Cui Tiankai, was speaking at the annual gala held by the US-China Business Council in Washington DC on Wednesday. During his speech, Cui noted that China and the US currently enjoyed a stable political relationship, which laid the foundation for practical cooperation in various fields, and said that this position should not be undermined by any means. "The political foundation of the China-U.S. relations should not be undermined. It should be preserved. And basic norms of international relations should be observed, not ignored, and certainly not be seen as something that you can trade off. And indeed, national sovereignty and territorial integrity are not bargaining chips. Absolutely not," he said. The Chinese ambassador said that thanks to the efforts of both sides over the past few decades, bilateral cooperation in trade and the economy had seen rapid growth and fruitful results, which have benefited the peoples of both countries and the rest of the world. He said that win-win cooperation is the sole right choice for the two countries. Cui Tiankai said that US domestic politics was undergoing a crucial transitional period, as is the relationship between China and the United States. He called on business leaders from both countries to continue playing an important role as stabilizers and propellers for bilateral relations. |
