An Egyptian mummy more than 3,000 years old has gone on show in the eastern city of Xiamen.

The mummy of Ramesses II's son is part of the "Quest for Immortality: Hidden Treasure of Egypt" exhibition that opened in Xiamen, Fujian Province, on Saturday.

About 270 items are on display at the show, which covers the 6,000 years of Egypt's Early Dynastic Period, Middle Kingdom and New Kingdom.

"These are exciting items and it will be an awesome exhibition!" said Carolyn Routledge from Britain's Bolton museum, which owns some of the exhibits. "Most of the items are on display on the Chinese mainland for the first time."

The exhibition also contains a replica of the tomb of Thutmose III, one of the most famous pharaohs.

The items on display are from Bolton museum, Bolton council, the Lester Singh Walker museum and Durham University oriental museum. The exhibition has toured many U.S. and Europe cities.
