Chinese Telecom Giants China Mobile and China Telecom have released plans to bring down the price of fourth generation (4G) telecom services this year.

According to news portal Chinanews.com, China Mobile will build more than 300,000 4G base stations across China this year.

This will allow its 4G network to cover 1.35 billion people, over 97% of China's total population. China Mobile said this would further bring down 4G prices and mobile roaming fees. The company has also made plans to research and develop its fifth generation (5G) of telecom services.

China Mobile also plans to improve its fixed broadband service. Most of its broadband service users will enjoy 50 Mbps (Million bits per second) of broadband access speed this year. The average broadband speeds for its users will be at least 20 Mbps.

Meanwhile, China Telecom will also lower its 4G prices. Its average broadband speeds will reach at least 30 Mbps.

The Ministry of Industry and Information Technology set goals in May, 2015 to provide China with better Internet access and lower broadband prices. Based on the plan, 4G networks will cover both urban and rural areas in China by the end of 2017. Broadband speeds in provincial capitals or higher-level cities will reach 30 Mbps, while broadband speeds in other cities will reach 20 Mbps. Chinese regulators are also planning to reduce prices for 4G and broadband services.
