The group, along with 65 others from the mainland, is accused of bilking millions out of people from the mainland. The suspects were deported from Malaysia last month. Chen Shiqu with the Ministry of Public Security says all are going to face trial on the mainland. "They set up bases abroad, but the victims of their scams were all mainland residents. And by law, the mainland has jurisdiction over the [Taiwan] suspects. As for now, we have decided to launch investigations into and prosecute all suspects involved in this case here from the mainland." The announcement of a confession by the group follows a series of meetings between mainland authorities and officials from Taiwan over jurisdictional issues connected to the case. As part of those meetings, Taiwan delegation head Chen Wen-chi says officials on the island are going to do their best to try to get the money back. "Over the much-discussed money issue, the mainland and Taiwan will actively track the money and retrieve the funds on a basis of cooperation so that the losses of the victims would be compensated." Authorities say the suspects detained belonged to 5 criminal syndicates. They are suspected of being behind at least 100 separate telecom fraud cases.
