China's leading social networking platform is reporting a first-quarter profit of 7.1-million US dollars. This is a significant turn-around from the 3.1-million US dollars Weibo incurred in losses through the first 3-months of last year. Sina is pointing to increased advertising sales through the first quarter of this year as the main factor behind the turn-around. Ad sales through Weibo have nearly doubled through the first-quarter. At the same time, Sina is reporting a 45-percent increase in daily active users on Weibo through mobile devices. Sina has been directing much of its advertising focus toward its mobile division.
