[Photo: CRIENGLISH.com/Luo Bin] The "European Restaurant Week", part of the European Union's "Tastes of Europe" campaign, was launched on Monday at the Brasserie Flo restaurant in Beijing. The launch ceremony was attended by the EU Commissioner for Agriculture and Rural Development, Phil Hogan, who is visiting China and Japan this week with a business delegation of more than 60 European agri-food executives to promote food and beverage products from the EU. The EU Commissioner has met with Chinese Agriculture Minister Han Changfu and Trade and Industry Minister Zhang Mao to address common interests relating to agriculture and ongoing bilateral issues. Hogan said he hopes he can make some progress on the EU's current trade in China. Hogan's discussion with China also covers Geographical Indications (GI), research and innovation, rural development and organic farming. During the visit, Hogan expressed his hopes for more agricultural cooperation between China and Europe as Chinese consumers' demand for high-quality foodstuffs from Europe continues to rise. Funded by the EU Directorate-General for Agriculture and Rural Development, the "Tastes of Europe" campaign aims to promote agricultural products from Europe to countries throughout the world. This year, it has established a special connection with five high-quality European restaurants, namely Fiume, Niajo, Brasserie Flo, Paulaner Brauhaus and The Georg, to bring Chinese consumers a taste of European cuisine.
