Iran has unveiled plans to buy more than 160 European planes and at least one hundred jets from U.S. planemaker Boeing. It follows the lifting last week of sanctions imposed on Iran over its nuclear program. A senior Iranian official has revealed that the government is looking to purchase 127 jets from Airbus, compared with earlier reports of 114 aircraft. 40 European ATR turboprops are also said to have been added onto Iran's shopping list. Iran's Transport Minister has said the Airbus deal will be signed between national carrier Iran Air and Airbus during President Hassan Rouhani's visit to Paris this week. Iranian media have also quoted the Transport Minister as saying that only 150 planes of its present total of 25 are currently operational. The minister has added that the first batch of new Airbus jets are expected to arrive by late March. Meanwhile, Boeing has said it is assessing the steps it needs to take to trade with Iran, which remains subject to a number of U.S. restrictions. |
