The Supreme People's Procuratorate (SPP) on Wednesday vowed to create a safe environment for both doctors and patients by coming down hard on attacks against medical staff.

The SPP said in a statement issued at a press conference that medical workers had been verbally and physically abused.

It profiled nine "typical" cases of offenses targeting doctors and said that within the last 20 days, at least 10 incidents of violence against medical workers had occurred in China.

"Violent attacks endanger medical staff, undermine their working environment and negatively impact the doctor-patient relationship," said the SPP spokesperson Xiao Wei.

Xiao also called on other law enforcement and judicial agencies to investigate and punish such crimes.
