Officials from China and South Korea have met in Seoul to discuss the current situation on the Korean peninsula. Chinese envoy Wu Dawei and South Korea nuclear chief Hwang Joon-kook have come together to discuss the draft UN Security Council resolution put out on Thursday. Hwang Joon-kook says the current resolution has wide-spread acceptance. "Both South Korea and China have agreed that by executing on full scale the UN Security Council resolution with the international community, it will make North Korea clearly realise that it has no way out from the international society, with its nuclear developments. Thus, we came together in opinion that North Korea's thinking and behavior have to change on a qualitative level." The UN Security Council will be meeting later on this Monday to discuss the proposed sanctions. The meeting itself has reportedly been delayed, with the Russian delegation to the UN saying it needs more time to review the document. Should the measures pass, it will tighten existing restrictions on North Korea, creating the toughest UN sanctions imposed on the DPRK in over two-decades. |
