China underscores nuclear emergency preparedness exercises and training in a white paper issued on Wednesday.

The document on the nation's Nuclear Emergency Preparedness was released by the State Council Information Office.

To cater to the needs of nuclear energy development, national-level nuclear emergency preparedness joint exercises shall be conducted on a regular basis, it said, adding provincial-level exercises for nuclear emergency preparedness shall be conducted once every two to four years.

The white paper said operators of nuclear installations shall conduct comprehensive exercises once every two years.

According to the document, the nation had carried out national-level nuclear emergency joint exercises coded "Shendun-2009" and "Shendun-2015", which were observed by officials and experts from Japan, the Republic of Korea, France, Pakistan and the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA). The two events involved about 6,000 people.

Training is also strengthened in recent years, according to the paper. Since the Fukushima nuclear power plant accident in March 2011, China has organized more than 110 training sessions for different levels of nuclear emergency preparedness organizations, attended by about 10,000 people.
