The world's largest retailer Wal-mart is closing 269 stores. The company is shutting down 154 stores in the United States, and 115 stores in Latin America, including 60 in Brazil. The move will affect more than 16-thousand employees, including 10-thousand in the US. Wal-Mart says the closures represent less than one percent of its global revenue. The biggest cuts are in the United States, including all 102 Walmart Express stores. The closures come three months after Wal-mart's CEO announced plans to review global operations and shut underperforming stores. Wal-Mart's earnings have been under pressure as it faces increasing competition from online rivals like Amazon as well as struggling sales overseas. |
