An opening date has finally been announced for the new Disney resort in Shanghai.

The project's developer has announced that the gates will open to tourists June 16th.

Walt Disney Company and Shanghai Shendi Group have further announced that the new resort will host a spectacular welcoming ceremony for the first group of guests, as part of a multi-day grand opening celebration.

This is Disney's sixth resort worldwide. Construction has been ongoing since 2011, with an investment of 29.5 billion yuan, roughly 4.5 billion US dollars.

The Shanghai resort will have features and attractions unique among Disney's worldwide properties, including ones based on Marvel comics franchises and Star Wars.

There will also be others inspired by Chinese culture.
