Selfie sticks will be banned from Hong Kong Disneyland starting on July 1.

According to Hong Kong Disney officials, banning selfie sticks in the parks is due to growing safety concerns for both visitors and park employees.

Several other Disney Theme Parks around the world have also banned selfie sticks, with US Disney resorts in Florida and California putting their bans in place next Tuesday and Disneyland Paris doing so on the same day as Hong Kong.

Selfie sticks are a popular device used to stabilize a smartphone in order to take a self-portrait from an extended distance.

Yet, there are a growing number of tourist attractions, especially in-door venues, limiting or outright visitors on site from using selfie sticks, including the Palace of Versailles in Paris, France, the Art Institute of Chicago in the U.S. and Emirates Stadium in London, England.
