[Photo: qq.com] China's Peking University has provided additional resources for admitted students from disadvantaged backgrounds, the Morning Post reports on Sunday. On Saturday, about 500 students from low-income families admitted through the university's Green Channel program attended a new-student orientation. In addition to providing financial aid, the university also gifted the students new books, some of which were written by professors of different departments from the university. The Green Channel program was established by the university to ensure students with financial needs could complete their degrees without financial burdens. Yang Ai'min, Director of the Office of Student Financial Aid of Peking University, told the Morning Post that the university was moving away from the traditional practice of merely offering financial aid packages to students in need. Lin Jianhua, President of Peking University, greeted the new students on Saturday. Lin enjoyed welcoming the new students, as well as taking photos with them. Peking University admitted 4,006 undergraduate students this year. The school has increased the maximum amount of annual financial assistance per student to 20,000 yuan (approximately 3,100 US dollars). The amount is offered to two orphaned incoming students this year.
