Chinese embassy officials in Myanmar are hitting more flood-stricken areas to deliver relief materials worth some 300,000 US dollars.

Responding to a call from the embassy, around one-hundred Chinese companies operating in Myanmar have also begun organizing flood-relief assistance.

A non-governmental Chinese rescue team has also arrived in Myanmar this week.

This comes as Myanmar copes with some of its worst monsoon flooding in decades.

"Older people and children have already been evacuated to higher ground and have taken other things with them. I'm staying on - not so much to rescue my belongings but to help when something happens as my house is near the river."

At least 70 people have been killed and over 250,000 others displaced by the monsoon flooding this year.

The Irrawaddy Delta, Myanmar's main rice-growing region, is also at risk of major flooding.

This is the same area which was hit by a massive cyclone in 2008, leaving some 140,000 people dead.
