A Nadam fair in memory of Genghis Khan is scheduled to kick off from July 18 to 24 in Ordos, a city of north China's Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region where the historical character's mausoleum locates, local sports officials said here on Wednesday.

The seven-day fair will feature ethnic Mongolian traditional sports, such as archery, wrestling, horse racing, horse walking as well as traditional singing and dancing performances, the organizers said.

It is the 11th edition since Ordos has held such a Nadam fair in the name of Genghis Khan, which is estimated to draw more than 1,000 people to participate.

Ethnic Mongolians claim to be descended from Genghis Khan, the conqueror who united the tribes of northern China and founded the Mongol Empire in the 13th century.

Nadam is a mass traditional Mongolian festival in which people celebrate harvests and pray for good luck.
