[Photo: chinanews.com] An app that supplies users with updated information on natural disasters has been launched in Jiexiu and Xinzhou, two cities in north China's Shanxi province, on Wednesday, according Shanxi-based news website, sxrb.com. The Shanxi Association for Science and Technology said the app uses information from an authoritative natural disaster monitoring and warning system to help users stay informed on developments regarding natural disasters. The warning system collects data with advanced monitoring technologies, such as remote-sensing technologies, Geographic Information System (GIS) and big data analytic methods. The system is mainly focused on monitoring areas and regions with the highest occurrences of nature disasters. While the app cannot predict natural disasters, its 24-hour alert system can help users avoid possible disasters in certain areas and help reduce the impact of a natural disaster.
