Universal's Ted 2 has had an underwhelming debut at the North American box office with takings of $33 million dollars.

The movie had been predicted to take $15 million more at the box office this weekend.

Ted 2 is the sequel to hit 2012 comedy Ted. Ted 2 centers around the main character Ted who is a bear and tries to convince the court that he's a person in order to have a baby with his wife.

Taking the box office by storm was Disney Pixar's Inside Out which grossed $52 million and Jurassic World which took $54 million.

The animated movie has now taken $184 million since its opening last weekend.

The dinosaur film is now the fifth grossing domestic release of all time topping $500 million stateside. It currently stands behind The Dark Knight's $534 million taking.

Melissa McCarthy's Spy movie hung in fifth place taking a further $7.8 million to push its total to $88 million.
