European telecom group Altice has made an offer to acquire France's Bouygues Telecom through its subsidiary, Numericable-SFR. Details of the deal have not been revealed yet. Bouygues is to hold a board meeting on Tuesday to discuss the offer. The company added that no negotiations between the two sides were currently underway. If completed, the deal would vault Numericable-SFR ahead of current French leader, the state-backed Orange. The French government has already signaled its opposition to the proposed deal due to concerns over its impact on investment in communications infrastructure and employment. Altice bought SFR from French media group Vivendi last year for more than 20 billion U.S. dollars. The company recently entered the U.S. market after purchasing a 9.1 billion-U.S.-dollar stake in Missouri-based Suddenlink Communications. |
