[Photo: xinhua] All 75 people in Guangdong province who had close contact with the first confirmed case of MERS in China have now been released from quarantine. Xu Angao, director of Huizhou's health department, says all the people tested negative for MERS twice. "Dealing with the outbreak of MERS is really like a fight of epidemic prevention. We've fought hard until the deadline, midnight of June 10. All people in close contact with the person who had contracted MERS have lived up to the medical standard to be released from MERS quarantine." On May 29, a man from South Korea tested positive for MERS while in Guangdong. According to local health authorities, the patient is now in a stable condition. The 44-year-old man had visited a MERS patient at a South Korea hospital and was displaying symptoms as early as May 21. Meanwhile, 14 new cases of MERS were reported on Thursday in South Korea, bringing the total to 122. So far, the virus has left 10 dead. Middle East Respiratory Syndrome, a virus similar to SARS, was first confirmed in South Korea on May 20th.
