Kirsten Smith and Karen McCullah, the brains behind Legally Blonde and She's the Man are set to write the script. It's currently unclear if Whoopi Goldberg who starred in the 1992 original will appear in the movie. The original film's plot centered around a lounge singer played by Goldberg who goes into protective custody at a San Francisco convent and pretends to be a nun. The film earnt $232 million worldwide. Allison Shearmur who worked on latest Disney hit Cinderella will produce the film. Plot details of the remake are still unclear.
