The family of Xu Chunhe, a man shot dead by police in northeast China, has refused compensation from Police, the Southern Metropolis Daily reported on May 11.

It is reported that Quan Yushun, the mother of Xu, has refused the 200,000 yuan compensation from the Harbin Railway Public Security Department. She also mandated four lawyers to act for her in the shooting case, which claimed the life of her son, 54-year-old Xu.

According to a report by Xinhua News Agency, the fatal incident occurred on May 2 in Qing'an, a county in northeast China's Heilongjiang Province. Xu was with his mother and 3 children in a waiting room of the train station when, for unknown reasons, Xu tried to prevent other passengers from boarding a train.

A policeman named Li Lebin was called to the scene.

Xu attacked Li with a water bottle and punched him. He even pushed a girl towards the official who fell to the floor. Later, Xu took a baton from Li and hit him twice with it. The official then shot Xu.

Witnesses later said they saw Xu trying to take the gun from Li and shouting 'Whoever grabs the gun, owns it'. Witnesses also said they heard Li give a verbal warning before he fired his weapon.

According to Beijing Evening News, Xu lived a hard life while he was alive. He had a heart problem along with other illnesses and his wife was suffering from a mental illness. The couple was unable to take care of their children. It is reported Xu's family had previously visited Beijing several times to seek aid from national authorities.
