A new report is suggesting Chinese cities make up half of the top-20 most active markets around the world when it comes to new shopping center developments. Among 171 cities in a global survey, Chinese cities accounted for close to 6-million square meters of shopping center space development last year. Hubei's capital, Wuhan, saw the largest volume of shopping center space created in China last year, with nearly 1 million square meters spanning 8 different projects. Sichuan's capital Chengdu, as well as Beijing and Chongqing follow closely behind. Some 40 million square meters of shopping center space went under construction last year around the world. |
