One person has died after a gas explosion in eastern Beijing.

According to authorities, the explosion happened at 15:50 on Thursday afternoon at a residential complex in east Chaoyang district.

The victim is said to be a female.

No other injuries have been reported.

Police say the investigation into the cause of the accident is still underway.

Earlier media reports suggested that one man was taken away by the police after the explosion.
