China's Supreme People's Court (SPC) will check training facilities used by courts nationwide to make sure they are not too lavish or being used to host extravagant activities, it said on Monday.

It issued a circular vowing punishment for extravagance and urging courts to rectify irregularities in construction, operation and financing of their training facilities.

The circular ordered courts at all levels to finish self-checks of such facilities before Sept. 10, while superior courts will increase the frequency of random inspections to ensure the circular is implemented.

The higher courts will also deliver reports to the SPC.

The circular came in response to reports in recent days of corruption and extravagance in training facilities built by governments and other public institutions, as the central authority's anti-graft campaign has left little room for officials to act extravagantly in public.
