A Chinese man was detained after he stabbed a foreigner to death in a hotpot restaurant in the Pudong New Area last night.

The incident happened about 8:30pm at an outlet of the popular Haidilao hotpot restaurant on Zhangyang Road.

The alleged killer, surnamed Wu, hails from east China’s Shandong Province. Waiving a knife, he entered the restaurant and rushed toward the table which was occupied by the foreigner and a woman, witnesses said.

The foreigner was then seen lying on the floor in a pool of blood.

Following preliminary investigation, police said Wu suspected the foreigner of having an affair with his wife. No other details were available. The case is still under investigation.
