A museum of water conservation on the Yellow River opened on Monday in north China's Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region.

Covering an area of 3,000 square meters, the museum features multiple exhibitions detailing the geography and climate of the Yellow River basin, and conservation projects on the river throughout history.

The museum owns more than 1,700 cultural relics, including more than 100 historical documents of great value for research.

The museum, which is free of charge for visitors, is in Bayannur City on the Hetao Plain, on the upper course of the river.

At 5,464 kilometers, the Yellow River is the second longest river in China, originatung on the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau and flowing into the Bohai Sea.
