Scores of people from China's taekwondo star Wu Jingyu's hometown of Jingdezhen in east China's Jiangxi province came to her home to celebrate her defending Olympic title on Thursday by setting off firecrackers.

Wu capitalized on her expert axe kicks to crush Spaniard Brigitte Yague Enrique 8-1 during the women's 49 kg taekwondo gold medal match at London Olympics.

"The relatives and friends gathered here watching the live starting from yesterday afternoon when the taekwondo event kicked off, and most of them stayed up all night," Wu's elder sister Wu Jingzhu said.

The 25-year-old Chinese became the first two-straight-time champion in the category since the sport was introduced into the Olympics in 2000.

"Her performance is excellent and I will give her the warmest hug when she came back home," Wu Jingzhu said.

The already-prepared red banner reads "Congratulations on Wu Jingyu's defending title" was also put up on the exterior of her house after the referee announced the result.
