Sebastian Coe, president of the organizing committee of the London Olympic and Paralympics, defended Chinese swimmer Ye Shiwen at the height of doping suspicion against her.

"I don't care what the international media say, I think it was a fantastic performance," he told Xinhua after watching the badminton competitions in the Wembley Stadium Tuesday afternoon.

Ye, 16, chopped more than a second off the world record to win the women's 400m individual medley on Saturday with a final 50-meter sprint that was faster than American star Ryan Lochte.

Her success was followed by speculations that the miracle might be a result of drugs.

According to IOC regulations, the top-five finishers in each medal event are subject to compulsory drugs testing.

Several Olympic officials have openly voiced their belief and support for the young Olympic champion, including Mark Adams, communications director of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), Arne Ljungqvist, chairman of IOC's medical commission and Lord Colin Moynihan, the Chairman of the British Olympic Association.
