    Shan Jixiang, President of the Palace Museum made a report last week in China Meteorological Administration (CMA) whose title was “From Functional City to Cultural City”.

    Zheng Guoguang, Administrator of CMA said that this report helped the audience understand China's traditional culture and the fabulous cultural heritage and strengthen our confidence of protecting cultural heritage. The report was highly relevant to cultural construction of the meteorological department and scientific development of the meteorological service.

    In his report, Shan Jixiang called on to prevent cities' memory disappearance, urban construction disorder, urban environment deterioration, cities' spirit decline, urban management deterioration and etc. From lots of pictures and examples, the audience learned the latest concepts of city planning and cultural construction.

    Shan Jixiang also stressed the important role of the continuity from generation to generation and the public participation in cultural heritage protection. He comprehensively introduced the main tasks of the security work in the Palace Museum including the prevention of fire, burglary, lightning and earthquake, among which the prevention of fire and lightning was closely related to meteorology. In addition, the monitoring of the cultural heritage in the Palace Museum concerning the continuous monitoring of surrounding climate and micro environment and the monitoring of temperature, humidity and illumination for the exhibition halls. Shan Jixiang expressed the Palace Museum’s demands to the meteorological disaster prevention and reduction.
