Director Lu Chuan and the cast of the upcoming costume drama "The Last Supper" (Wang De Shengyan) met the press in Beijing on Monday, to release the first movie trailer and a batch of promotional still photographs, mtime.com reports.

Actors Liu Ye, Daniel Wu, Chang Chen, Qin Lan and Nie Yun revealed their character's promotional stills during the event. This is the first time that pictures from the film have been released since shooting began last year.

The movie is based on the famous event of the "Banquet at Hong Men" (Hong Men Yan), during which Xiang Yu and Liu Bang, two prominent leaders of insurgent forces who rebelled against the Qin Dynasty, met so that Xiang could assassinate Liu.

In order to create a compelling movie which remains true to the course of historical events, Lu Chun spent eight months researching the topic; and even hired history professors to teach him about the incident and the period in general.

The movie will hit cinema screens on July 5.
