Some 300 overseas Chinese from across Latin America Saturday kicked off an annual regional meeting here to boost China's peaceful reunification career.

The delegates belonged to the Central and South American Association for the Promotion of Peaceful Reunification of China, which was founded in 2001 in Panama.

Chinese Ambassador to Costa Rica Li Changhua, at the meeting, said "the association holds the expectation that a unified and prosperous China make greater contributions to the peace process and development of the whole mankind, and that Taiwan authorities, instead of deviating from the great cause of reunification of China, return to the position of one-China."

Li said during the past 10 years the association has brought together people from the Chinese mainland and Taiwan to talk openly about peaceful reunification.

He emphasized there is only one China in the world, and Taiwan is an "inalienable part" of the Chinese territory.
