Music snobs can't stand the Gongti scene, where stereotypes about status are hard to shake. It's true: do a loop around the stadium and you'll see one of the highest concentrations of Ferraris and Lamborghinis on the planet. Add to that a prevalence of young, lithe females wearing high heels and a number dudes who wear business suits on the dance floor, and you start to get the picture.

But how does that fit in with a Beijing that's supposed to be on the cutting edge of dance culture? DJ super star Paul Oakenfold wrote about his DJ travels and actually said, "Nowhere is more exciting than China."

Vics, Mix and Latte, are the hip hop clubs who brazenly claim their territory at Gongti's north gate. All three clubs are packed on weekends. Amazingly they also get filled Sunday through Thursday.

Vics and Mix are the naughty twin sisters of the Gongti family, seductively peeking out of Gongti's north gate, almost hidden, but definitely not hiding. They tempt innocent Johns to enter Gongti's, into the folds of its inner sanctuary, its secret garden of aural delights.
