Tian Zhuangzhuang admitted in a previous interview that he barely knew Zhou before accepting the cameo role as a prison officer. Tian shared his reasons for joining the project by saying, "I saw something new in his script. The movie keeps the local culture. At the same time, it brings unique elements to the audience."

Ang Lee's character has not been unveiled yet. The friendship between Lee and Zhou began in 2007 when Zhou worked as an assistant under Lee for "Lust, Caution."

"Night Fall" features Nick Cheung and Simon Yam, both of whom picked up the Best Actor Award at the Hong Kong Film Awards. Cheung portrays an innocent prisoner seeking revenge after his release. Yam plays the police officer trying to track him down.

The film's release date is yet to be confirmed.
