An ongoing collaboration between Denmark and China's postal authorities will result in release of special stamps in both countries later this year.

China Post's stamp department will showcase the Sino-Danish cooperation by issuing two stamps on the theme of astronomy in December 2011, while Post Danmark will issue the same stamps in January 2012.

Both post authorities will publish a joint stamp collection at the end of 2011, with the Danish stamps sold to collectors via China Post outlets.

Moreover, a set of special H.C. Andersen stamps, designed by Chinese artists, are scheduled for release in Denmark in summer 2012.

"We share inspiration and get useful international experience and knowledge of the Chinese way to make stamps," said Martin Pingel, Head of Design for Post Danmark's stamp unit, referring to the collaboration.

In 2010, the two post authorities teamed up to share practices and knowledge in stamp production. A school to train Chinese stamp designers and boost their skills in steel engraving for stamps was subsequently established in Beijing.

"They are excellent in developing additional products and involving local communities in active storytelling about their country," Pingel said of China Post and its stamp makers.

For its part, "Post Denmark is able to provide technical expertise, for example, teaching intaglio, as well as being a door opener for the Chinese to Europe and the EU," Pingel added.
