As it is gets colder and colder, farmers’ bookstores in the counties of Tongjiang and Jiamusi are still very hot. The farmers make use of limited time in the busy season to study science and technology in farmers’ bookstores.

Yang Jun, villager in Weiguo Country, Jiejinkou County, said happily: “The environment of our farmers’ bookstores is pretty good. There are many kinds of books. I gain a lot to knowledge there. Last year, soybean demonstrated an increase of more than 360 yuan every mu thanks to learning advanced agricultural techniques. Farmers’ bookstores really become treasure-houses of knowledge.”

It is known that the Heilongjiang Province’s farmers’ bookstore project started in 2006 and was popularized in 2007. Until now, there are 7525 farmers’ bookstores in 907 villages, 65 towns and 13 local cities, benefiting over 18 million villagers. The coverage reaches 83.1% and the project is now enjoying rapid development. The farmers’ houses which have been built meet the national standard.
