It is not difficult for a man to do a good deed but it is really difficult for a man to do a good deed all his life. Foreign teacher Paul is the man who wants to do a good deed all his life. In China, he does a lot of things that many Chinese can not do. However, to be a good man, he is suffering from the unbearable weight of being.

Paul will receive flowers, gifts and wishes from children in kindergarten on September 10th of every year since he came to China. He will give candy to the children, sing with them and play games.

However, this year, everything changed. Paul has parted with his children for several days since he went in hospital on August 22nd.

Paul is a foreign teacher. In 2001, he sold all his properties in America and took his wife and children to move to Harbin. Paul said he admired Bruce Lee when he was young and liked mysterious Chinese culture. Certainly, his biggest love is to see innocent and happy children.

When entering Paul’s sickroom, there is some childish graffiti on the wall and a cartoon bear balloon floating on the roof. In graffiti, the kids wrote “wish daddy enjoy good health and be forever young” “Wish Daddy recover soon” in Pinyin. The kids affectionately called Paul “dad” or “American grandfather”. To encourage kids to learn English, Paul usually “bribes” kids to give them gifts and takes them to play games.

“Once, I pretended to be a tiger hiding behind a chair. The little boy really thought I was a tiger. He ran from the third floor to the first floor. He never went back to the classroom.” Referring to this, Paul laughed and danced to act a tiger. People cannot feel he was suffering from pain.

Paul’s motto is “Do what you can while you can do it”. He practiced this motto through his actions for many years. He believes one can achieve any target if he tries his best. For this, Miss Jiao, Paul’s friend, has a profound understanding. She said: “as a foreigner, Paul has done many things that most Chinese cannot do.”
