Xiao Jun(July 3,1907-June 22,1988) Born in Jinzhou of Liaoning province, he was given the original name of Liu Honglin. Apart from the pen name Xiao Jun, he is also known for his other pen names such as Tuoyansanlang, Tian Jun,etc. Early in 1932, he came to Harbin and began his literary career, at the same time, became one writer of the revolutionary literary team led by the Underground Party regularly. In the autumn of 1933, he published a short stories collection with Xiao Hong named Trudge including six novels of Xiao Hong, The Lonely Chicken, The Candlewick, The Pink Line, The Common Things, The Lunatic and The Ragtag. In the middle of June in 1934, he was forced to leave the Northeast and arrived at Qingdao where he handled the supplement of Qingdao Morning Edition with Xiao Hong and engaged in his writing simultaneously; at the same time, he completed his first well-known book The Village in August there. In July of 1935, he published his “illegal” novel The Village in August at his own expense, which stirred the literary circle and erected his position in Chinese modern literary history when it was released to the public. In June of 1940, he went to Yan’an at his second time and stayed there until the end of winter in 1945, shouldering a series of posts: secretary-in-chief of Research Institution of Lu Xun, trustee of Branch of Literary Association, editor for Literary Monthly and facultyman for Lu Xun Academy of Literature and Art, etc. After the victory of Anti-Japanese War, he returned Harbin, the place he had been parted for twelve years on Sept 23,1946.
