China's Ministry of Public Security Thursday ordered the country's police officers to solve people's practical problems in an effort to deepen the nationwide campaign for a harmonious society.

The ministry said in a statement police officers should listen to the advice and complaints of residents and the press, since only public satisfaction can be the judge of police competence.

The ministry asked police officers to invite legislators, political advisors and media representatives to police stations to comment on police work.

To hear the voice of the public, police officers should make full use of the Internet, mobile phones and other new media while meeting people in online police chat rooms and through microblogs, the statement said.

The ministry launched a nationwide campaign to interview thousands of local residents in 2009 after it conducted a successful campaign to receive public complaints in 2005.
