Taiwan pop singer Chang Hui-Mei outshone other nominees at the 21st Golden Melody Awards on Saturday in Taipei as she and her album "A-MIT" claimed six awards at the Chinese lookalike of the Grammys.

Chang was named best Mandarin female singer, regaining the tiara after eight years. "A-MIT" won best album, best lyrics, best composing, and best producing. The title single from the album was named best song of the year.

"It's a significant moment for me," said an emotional Chang while she accepted the best female singer award, "It let me know persistence, change and love for singing are the right things to do."

Chang Hui-Mei, also known as A-Mei, enjoys an enduring popularity since her debut in the mid-1990s. "A-MIT", which was named after her aboriginal name, was released last June.

In other awards, R&B singer-songwriter David Tao was named best Mandarin male singer. Pop-rock group Sodagreen's "Sunlight" MV was named best music video.
