Wang Shaowei, with a style name Yuechan, was born in Yushu County, Jilin Province in 1897. He was a freehand brushwork painter specializing in flower-and-bird painting, and teacher of the famous painter Guan Shanyue. His works integrate traditional and modern artistic styles and greatly cherished by collectors. He passed away in 1961.
