Actor Xia Yu announced through his agent that his wife actress Yuan Quan has given birth to a baby daughter.
 
According to a report in the Beijing News, the news was first published on an online forum, and was taken as an April Fool's Day joke by many netizens.

However, it was confirmed by the actor's agent later, saying that the baby was born on Wednesday in Beijing and the couple is planning to keep the news low-key.

Xia Yu and Yuan Quan have been together since they were students at the Central Academy of Drama in Beijing. Last year they decided to end the decade-long courtship by registering their marriage.

Actor Xia Yu is the youngest winner of the Best Actor award of Venice Film Festival in history.
